The year was 1994. Hip-hop icons Nas, Bone Thugs n Harmony, and Notorious B.I.G released legendary albums like\u00a0Illmatic<\/em>,\u00a0Creepin\u2019 on\u00a0ah Come Up<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0Ready to Die<\/em>.<\/h2>\n

Rock and Roll lost Nirvana lead singer\u00a0Kurt Cobain\u00a0and Green Day sprayed us with\u00a0Dookie.<\/em>\u00a0OJ and his Bronco brought the country to a halt and Disney\u2019s\u00a0Lion King roared in Pride Rock. In the sports world, the NBA had just been\u00a0rocked<\/em>\u00a0by MJ announcing his retirement.<\/span><\/p>\n

This\u00a0was also\u00a0a\u00a0time where basketball access was limited beyond\u00a0Sports Illustrated<\/em>\u00a0and knowing the latest trends in shoes required a trip to the mall.<\/h2>\n

A mere 20 years ago, Wi-Fi didn\u2019t exist and basketball fanatics had to jump through\u00a0hoops<\/em> to get the fix they needed and wanted so badly. That was until SLAM<\/em>\u00a0entered our universe and changed it forever.<\/p>\n

The NBA lost a basketball and marketing legend in Michael Jordan and were desperate to fill the void.<\/p>\n

SLAM<\/em>\u00a0seized this opportunity offering basketball junkies refuge in a magazine dedicated to young hip-hop generation stars \u2014 like LJ, Kemp, Shaq and Penny, Mourning, Iverson, Kobe and C-Webb \u2014 while providing a guide to the latest street wear in clothing and shoes. Completely dedicated to the basketball junkie, SLAM caught fire like Chris Mullin in\u00a0NBA Jam<\/em>.<\/p>\n

You could literally read\u00a0SLAM<\/em>\u00a0front to back like your present day Harry Potter novel (if you\u2019re into that sort of thing).<\/h2>\n

It had everything from \u201cTrash Talk\u201d to \u201cNOYZ,\u201d a fresh new writing style and\u00a0insight by Scoop Jackson and my personal favorite \u201cSLAMADAMONTH,\u201d the best dunk posters you could fill your bedroom wall with.\u00a0 It was EPIC.<\/p>\n

Fast forward to present day 2016 and\u00a0SLAM<\/em>\u00a0has\u00a0released it\u2019s 200th issue. Time flies when you\u2019re having fun.<\/p>\n
